Role Overview
BAE Systems Maritime Submarines are seeking a Principal Engineer - Product Assurance (Electrical) to provide assurance of power system designs across submarine programmes. This role ensures that electrical engineering products are safe, compliant, and effective, while offering independent safety assurance for key submarine products.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assurance on the design of power systems, actively participating in design reviews.
- Deliver assurance evidence through audits, inspections, reviews, tests, and trials.
- Produce technical briefings and reports to address issues, resolutions, and escalations.
- Track progress and report on issue status in the EPAD Concerns and Best Practice tracker.
- Offer specialist technical advice in support of product assurance and safety activities.
- Ensure engineering products are fully integrated, safe, compliant with requirements, and that hazards are managed to be As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
- Deliver assurance within the framework defined by internal Topic Manual 133, using a risk-based approach.
- Support wider submarine enterprise projects and provide independent safety assurance, maintaining an objective view independent of designers, manufacturers, and users.
Knowledge:
- Expertise in the project life cycle management of submarine systems.
- Experience in design proving through verification, validation, and commissioning.
- Proficiency in conducting design reviews, audits, change management, and issue resolution.
- Strong understanding of corporate and local engineering policies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical arguments clearly and simply in both oral and written formats.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Significant experience in electrical power engineering design or assurance roles.
