Principal Mechanical Engineer x 10 are required to work on a six month contract, with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Cumbria
Overview of the Principal Mechanical Engineer contract roles
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer, with industry experience in the design, build and installation of compressed gas and atmospheric management systems and supporting systems and equipment.
You will work as part of a team responsible for a number of compressible gas and atmospheric systems plus interfaces to other systems that form part of our complex and World Class product for our customer the UK Royal Navy. The complex nature of the product may see you being involved in a wide range of activities from all stages of design to supporting our customer, suppliers and resolving build or commissioning issues.
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering the engineering systems that make UK Royal Navy Submarines Truly World Class. The complex nature of the product places demands across a range of specialist subject areas, including:
Pressurised air and gas systems
Compressible and non-compressible fluid dynamics
Survival and Life support systems
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Mechanical Engineer will involve:
Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work, recognising stakeholder and customer requirements
Engineering verification and validation activities
Providing engineering evidence and assurance to ensure customer requirements have been met
Contributing to the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities
Providing engineering advice and capability to support submarine acceptance, build, test and commissioning activities
Key skills required for the Principal Mechanical Engineer
Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
Demonstrable experience across the full engineering lifecycle of the development and delivery of relevant compressible gas systems and their supporting equipment.
Experience of compressible gas flow calculations.
System of systems problem solving.
Experience in balancing complex design requirements and managing complex documentation packs.
Experience of working with Oxygen systems.
Experience of using computerised flow modelling software such as Flowmaster.
Awareness of diving air systems.
The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District
