Principal Safety Engineer - COMAH/Safety Management Systems
A Principal Safety Engineer with COMAH and Safety Management Systems is required to work on a six month contract, with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Cumbria
This is a contract within Naval Defence.
Overview of the Principal Safety Engineer - COMAH/Safety Management Systems contract role
The temporary post holder will be working within our Control Damage Hazards (CDH) team who work with the site SHE and Engineering Management teams and you will be primarily focused on COMAH and Safety Management Systems delivery through intervention planning, safety report review and liaison with Competent Authority colleagues, ensuring the safe delivery of Royal Navy submarines programmes This role will provide you with the chance to work alongside subject matter experts within an exciting and specialist skills area, whilst working on critical and complex engineering projects.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Safety Engineer will involve:
Leading/Supporting the business functions to satisfy our COMAH requirements; Leading/Supporting delivery of COMAH Safety documentation and conducting formal safety assessments such as quantitative risk assessments and occupied building risk assessments
Lead/Co-ordinate process hazard reviews, human factors, occupied building risk assessment programs to ensure they are completed competently and in a timely manner so that site safety hazards are known and managed.
Leading/Support the integration of our Safety Management System into a strategic business unit
Monitoring, recording and reporting against key performance indicators through a variety of key stakeholder groups
Reviewing of engineering documentation
Providing support to regulatory body site inspections
The Individual
Essential:
Active knowledge and experience of COMAH and Safety Management Systems
Proven track record in implementing business processes to achieve strategic objectives
Desirable:
Degree qualified discipline
ISO approved auditor
Membership of a relevant professional organisation
You must possess excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively liaise with a range of stakeholders to achieve programme goals. You must also have the ability to think strategically, problem-solve and consider the "bigger picture" within your day-to-day role. You must be energetic and bring enthusiasm to the role and use initiative and bring new ideas.
The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District
