Senior Underwriter - BTL Specialist Lending

£50k - £60k


Purpose of the role

Outsource UK's leading financial client are looking to hire a senior Underwriter to analyse, underwrite and present large BTL portfolio deals, typically between £5m and £25m, and cases of a more complex nature by virtue of ownership or holding structures, and oversee their progression to completion.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service combined with astute risk analysis whilst helping drive business volumes in line with the business plan
  • Obtain the information required to complete an underwriting proposal, which will include dealing with financial advisers and prospective or existing customers
  • Undertake face-to-face interviews with customers, both new and established, both on-site or off-site as necessary and appropriate
  • Build long-term beneficial relationships with brokers and customers alike, to build business levels, improve loyalty and strengthen existing ties
  • Maintain adherence to credit, conduct and operational risk policies, and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Develop internal relationships with intention of building a network of colleagues to ensure that all issues encountered can be addressed and resolved as appropriate
  • Approve proposals under own authority, as applicable
  • Accurately communicate approval conditions to colleagues
  • Maintain and collate relevant statistical and reporting data
  • Develop technical skills and knowledge with a view to becoming a point of referral for the wider department

Candidate Skills

  • Proven commercial mortgage underwriting experience at an advanced level, preferably including buy to let lending, having held a significant personal lending mandate
  • Proven ability to interpret financial statements to produce a clear written analysis
  • Sound knowledge of BTL lending
  • Experience of discussing accounting information, cash flow forecasts and business plans on a face to face basis with customers to obtain additional information
  • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills, self-motivated with ability to prioritise workloads
  • Understanding of the concept of Credit Risk
  • Understanding of Lending Operations, Customer Services, and Collections functions
  • Sound knowledge of underwriting and due diligence principles Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Data Protection, Anti Money Laundering, Consumer Credit Act, Prudential Regulatory Authority initiatives, Companies Acts and related legislation

Qualifications and experience

ACIB and CeMAP qualified. Experience of lending proposal structuring and documentation including strengthening proposals by taking additional security if appropriate.

Working hours 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (one hour for lunch).
