Contract: 12 Months
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, 7:15am–5:00pm (Friday off)
Rate: £28.47 per hour PAYE or £38.25 via umbrella (Inside IR35)

We are recruiting for a Product Development Engineer to join BAE Systems' Artillery Development team at Glascoed. This is an exciting opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle, supporting the design, development, testing, and evaluation of complex defence products and systems.
The role offers a unique blend of hands-on engineering, product development, systems engineering, and trial activities, providing exposure to cutting-edge defence technologies in a highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and evaluation of new and legacy defence products.
- Apply engineering and systems engineering techniques including DFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Pugh Matrix assessments.
- Conduct technical investigations, root cause analysis, and develop effective engineering solutions.
- Support hands-on product development activities, including work with energetic and specialist materials.
- Plan, manage, and execute product and process trials, including the creation of trial plans, risk assessments, and technical reports.
- Support engineering governance activities throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through to disposal.
- Maintain and manage Engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support the preparation of technical and costed proposals for customers.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and customer stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with safety, quality, and engineering standards.
- Degree qualified in Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
- Experience supporting engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify technical issues and develop solutions.
- Experience of product design, development, testing, or systems engineering activities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering and trial environment.
- Knowledge of DFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Pugh Matrix, or similar engineering analysis techniques.
- Experience within defence, aerospace, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries.
- Understanding of Systems Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Knowledge of artillery systems, munitions, or complex mechanical products.
- Experience working in high-hazard manufacturing or testing environments.
- Progress towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
- 12-month contract with a leading defence organisation.
- Four-day working week with every Friday off.
