Weights Engineer
Client: BAE Systems
Location: 2 days per month in Barrow-in-Furness
Hourly Rate: £31.60 PAYE or £41.70 Umbrella
Duration: 12 months+
Are you ready to play a crucial role in the design and stability of BAEs submarines? They’re looking for a Principal Engineer in Weights Engineering to manage weight distribution and ensure the buoyancy and stability of or vessels throughout the design and build process.

About the Role:
- Develop and manage weight budgets from the concept phase through design and build.
- Monitor weight and centre of gravity changes, reporting throughout the project.
- Support production teams through launch, trim, and incline activities.
- Conduct calculations for mass attributes and manage a section of the vessel’s weight.
- Represent weights engineering in technical reviews and decision panels.
- Knowledge of submarine or surface ship design, Naval Architecture, and weight management.
- Experience with manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes.
- Proficient in using CAD systems and analysis tools.
- Strong collaboration skills to work with system engineers and stakeholders.
