Job description

The Senior Credit Underwriter will be a key part of the Underwriting team, assessing the credit and risk profiles of customers in the Real Estate market, determining the acceptability of proposals and providing recommendations or alternative solutions when appropriate, with core responsibilities including:

  • Ensuring that all recommendations for lending sanctions are compliant with the organisation's policies and all relevant regulations
  • Acting as deputy to the Head of Underwriting
  • Conducting independent assessments of each case, preparing relevant documents to ensure well-informed decisions are reached by the appropriate official, Credit Committee or under your own Delegated Lending Authority
  • Making sure the main influencing factors and sanctioning analysis is accurately recorded when reaching decisions and recommendations
  • Facilitating business development through a pro-active approach to credit proposals, maximising opportunities
  • Ensuring that facilities have been issued with the correct legal documents, that they are executed correctly and that all legal formalities (including, when appropriate, the provision of independent legal advice) have been effectively completed
  • Line management, as delegated by the Head of Underwriting, including supervising the day to day activities of assigned team members, ensuring their individual and collective performance meets required standards, providing ongoing support and contributing to their development, providing ongoing support when required

Our ideal candidate for the Senior Credit Underwriter role:

  • Has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills developed in previous Underwriting roles
  • Has extensive and up to date knowledge of the commercial environment and sector specialisms especially real estate lending, the SME market and the relevant rules and regulations including Conduct Risk and Treating Customers Fairly
  • Must have previous experience of writing REF proposals, experience of AF proposals and/or recoveries work would also be beneficial
  • Has a good understanding of financial management and wider management techniques and principles
  • Is able to interpret and implement relevant guidance, ensuring full compliance
  • Is a clear and confident communicator in both writing and speech
