Autumn 2017 Budget

Posted on: 22/11/2017

The recent media speculation in advance of the Autumn Budget around possible changes to IR35 rules for contractors working within the Private Sector did prove to be partially correct today.

Whilst no immediate changes have been announced on how IR35 is applied for contractors providing services to Private Sector clients, the Government has voiced the intention to review this going forward. Similar changes within the Public Sector that came into effect earlier this year are – according to today’s Budget at least -  proving successful, and in light of this there is likely be a formal consultation on how similar rules could be applied within the Private Sector.

We know that, for both our contractors and clients, today’s news will be a cause for some concern – and having negotiated the minefields of the Public Sector rules earlier this year we can understand this reaction! It does seem like the never-ending series of changes to contractor legislation shows no sign of stopping. That said, we are – as always –  committed to working with both our contractors and our clients to navigate whatever changes the coming months may bring.

Head of Compliance Vicky Roythorne is running a 20 minute update webinar for our contractors on Tuesday 28th November at 1pm which will include a run down of the key points of today’s budget, and we have put together a free download with an initial summary of what today’s announcement may mean for our client partners. If you'd like to know more, please email us

It's early days, but we’re on hand to offer advice and guidance, and we’ll keep you updated!
