Job Title: DSEAR Safety Engineer
Location: Barrow in Furness (2-3 days a week onsite, 37 hours per week)
Client: BAE Systems
Duration: 12 Months (with opportunity for extension)
Hourly Rate: £63.96 Umbrella (INSIDE IR35)

Role Overview

BAE are seeking an Engineer specialising in Product Integrity and DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) to join the Safety & Environmental Engineering team. This role will provide technical leadership and support to ensure compliance with DSEAR requirements across site and facilities.

You will play a key role in delivering risk assessments, guiding compliance activities, and supporting the Engineering Delivery Manager in maintaining high standards of product safety.
  
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Deliver site and facility DSEAR risk assessments.
  • Review and approve technical documentation relating to DSEAR compliance.
  • Provide expert guidance on DSEAR compliance to site and facilities.
  • Support programme status reporting, identifying risks and implementing recovery plans
  • Conduct DSEAR technical risk assessments for facilities, redevelopment projects, and site-related activities.
  • Review and approve risk assessments for existing and new facilities.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including principles, processes, and project deliverables.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and technical guidance on DSEAR.
  • Lead workshops, risk cells, and working groups on explosion safety.
  • Support regulatory inspections and ensure compliance with SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) standards.
  • Coordinate team work programmes to achieve DSEAR objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of junior engineers within the team.
Knowledge and Skills 
  • Experience in explosion safety engineering and hazard analysis.
  • Strong understanding of DSEAR risk assessment and Hazardous Area Classification (HAC).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
