Electrical Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, BAE Systems
Contract length: 12 months
Business Unit: Submarines
Days on site: 3-4 days on site per week
Rate: £43.45 PAYE or £58.58 Umbrella
Join our innovative engineering team as a Principal Engineer – Control & Instrumentation (C&I) and play a key role in delivering and integrating complex control systems across high-impact defence or industrial programmes. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll lead on design, development, integration, testing, and delivery of sophisticated C&I systems.

Knowledge & Experience:
- Strong understanding of C&I systems design with proven career experience.
- Degree-qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (Engineering, Physics, Maths, or related field).
- Knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle and best practices.
- Experience with Defence and Industry standards such as IEC 61508 / 61511, ARP 4754, DO-178C / DO-254 (desirable).
- Proactive, self-motivated and highly organised approach to complex problem-solving.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Capable of mentoring and leading others.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
