Rates: £38.84 PAYE or £46.90 Umbrella

About the Role
Are you passionate about engineering design in the marine sector? We're looking for a Marine Engineering Engineer – Power and Propulsion (P&P) to join our dynamic Naval Ships team. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the design, development, and assurance of cutting-edge power and propulsion systems on complex warships.
You’ll be contributing your specialist mechanical engineering expertise to ensure the technical integrity and safe operation of essential auxiliary systems across the ship design and build lifecycle.

You’ll be contributing your specialist mechanical engineering expertise to ensure the technical integrity and safe operation of essential auxiliary systems across the ship design and build lifecycle.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop, maintain, and improve engineering processes and procedures aligned with project needs.
- Deliver design input and analysis on mechanical components of P&P systems.
- Conduct technical evaluations, recommend design solutions, and generate detailed reports.
- Support the integration of P&P systems including:
- Engine prime movers
- Shaft lines and bearings
- Propellers, clutches, gearing, seals, and thrust blocks
- Consider key warship design factors such as noise, shock, reliability, and human factors.
- Prepare technical specifications and perform detailed design appraisals.
- Investigate operational problems and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Act as a technical liaison with customers and suppliers within your area of responsibility.
- Support bids and proposals with expert input in P&P engineering.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Eligible for Incorporated Engineer status with the Engineering Council (or actively working toward)
- Strong knowledge and experience of marine engineering systems
- Experience in the design, build, and support of naval ships
- Familiar with marine engineering tools, standards, and integration into broader ship systems
- Awareness of Life Cycle Management and naval operational requirements
- Membership of a relevant Professional Engineering Institution
- Commercial awareness and understanding of modern shipbuilding techniques
- Knowledge of defence or naval systems and regulatory standards
