Solutions Design Manager – Automated Warehouse
Chester (3 Days Onsite with travel expenses paid) | Inside IR35 Contract | Initial 4 Months + Extension Likely

We’re supporting a major supply chain transformation programme and are looking for an experienced Solutions Design Manager to lead the physical design of a large-scale warehouse operation with a strong focus on automation readiness.

Candidates need to be available immediately.
This is a high-impact opportunity to shape a future-ready logistics facility within a complex, highly regulated environment. The programme is entering a critical design phase, with strong potential for long-term extension through 2026.

The Role
You’ll take ownership of the warehouse solution design, leading the physical layout and operational flow for a large-scale logistics operation. The environment will evolve toward greater automation capability, so experience designing scalable and future-proofed warehouse solutions is essential.
This is a hands-on role requiring expertise in warehouse layout design, material flow optimisation, MHE integration, and automation planning.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the physical layout design of a large-scale warehouse facility
Develop end-to-end warehouse solutions covering:
  • Goods-in
  • Storage
  • Picking
  • Packing
  • Dispatch flows
Drive space planning and racking configuration
Support integration of material handling equipment and automation technologies ,Design with future scalability in mind including:
  • ASRS
  • Conveyors
  • AMRs
  • Robotics
Support proof of concept development for automated warehouse solutions
Translate operational requirements into practical, buildable layouts
Contribute to design workshops, modelling, and solution validation activities
Work closely with programme stakeholders, consultants, and operational teams

Required Experience

Proven background as a:
  • Solutions Design Manager
  • Warehouse Solution Designer
  • Logistics Design Consultant
Strong experience physically designing warehouse layouts
Experience within automated or semi-automated warehouse environments
Previous involvement in:
  • Warehouse build projects
  • Large-scale reconfigurations
  • Automation feasibility or PoC initiatives
Familiarity with logistics design tools such as CAD, simulation, or flow modelling software
Comfortable operating within complex stakeholder environments

Desirable

Experience within aerospace, manufacturing, or highly regulated supply chains
Exposure to logistics consultancies or systems integrators
Experience designing high-throughput distribution centres

Contract Details

Initial 4-month contract
Strong likelihood of extension to 9–12 months
Inside IR35 (Umbrella)
Chester-based – 3 days onsite per week
Travel expenses covered
Design phase starts 28th May
