Import Officer – BAE Systems
Location: Samlesbury, Lancashire (Hybrid 2–3 days on site)
Contract: 12 Months
Rate: £21.38 PAYE / £28.63 Umbrella (Inside IR35)
BAE Systems is seeking a highly organised and proactive Import Officer to join the International Trade Solutions Team at our Samlesbury site. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply your import operations expertise across a wide range of Air Sector programmes, including UK, US and Europe & International activities.
In this role, you will support the efficient and compliant movement of goods into the UK, ensuring all import activity meets company policy, HMRC requirements, and international trade regulations. Reporting to the Import Operations Team Leader, you will play a key part in supporting business-wide governance, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of import documentation in line with HMRC regulations and internal procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of import legislation, ensuring processes align with current and emerging requirements.
- Support the physical delivery of Air Sector assets for both existing and developing international programmes.
- Contribute to internal reporting frameworks and escalate operational issues where required.
- Ensure high standards of governance, accuracy, and compliance across all import activities.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth, timely delivery of shipments.
- Uphold company health, safety, and environmental standards in line with organisational policies.
- Solid understanding of international trade principles, customs processes, and import requirements.
- Experience working in an import environment or similar supply chain/logistics function (beneficial).
- Awareness of legal and regulatory frameworks governing imports, including customs controls and compliance obligations.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced and pressurised environment.
- Strong organisational abilities, capable of managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
- Confident multitasker with the ability to handle high volumes of varied enquiries.
- Competent IT user with strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
