About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Quality Engineer to join BAE Systems Submarines, supporting our Quality Function to ensure compliance with the local Quality Business Management System. This role is critical in driving quality performance and delivering key improvement initiatives across the business unit.
The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in their discipline, able to manage tasks independently, anticipate and escalate issues, and effectively lead quality assurance activities.

The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in their discipline, able to manage tasks independently, anticipate and escalate issues, and effectively lead quality assurance activities.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a fully contributory member of the Quality team, supporting colleagues and developing specialist knowledge.
- Undertake specialist and complex Quality Assurance activities in line with relevant processes and procedures.
- Lead and support internal and supplier audits.
- Manage non-conformance resolution and corrective actions in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Lead quality investigations and facilitate root cause analysis using methodologies such as Fishbone, 5 Whys, and Six Sigma.
- Analyse data to identify trends, drive continuous improvement, and implement corrective actions.
- Represent the department at quality and cross-functional reviews and liaise with customers as required.
- Provide supervision and guidance to early careers staff rotating through quality roles.
- Deputise for management when required.
Knowledge and experience:
- In-depth understanding and application of ISO 9001 / EN9100 standards.
- Proven expertise in Quality Assurance and broad understanding of other quality disciplines.
- Strong understanding of business management systems and operational assurance processes.
- Experience with product safety and cross-functional integration.
- Knowledge of export requirements (e.g., ITAR), where applicable.
