Product Safety Engineer
Client:
BAE Systems
Location: Barrow in Furness (1-2 times per month)
Contract: 6 Months, 37 Hours per week
Hourly Rate: £74.68 Umbrella (Inside IR35) ~ £552 pd 
Security Clearance: BPSS + SC + UK EYES ONLY
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake Product Safety functional analysis, including Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard Analysis (HAZAN), in support of submarine design
  • Produce high-quality Product Safety functional justification reports and formal safety assessments
  • Provide specialist safety advice to systems engineers across submarine programmes
  • Liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and compliance
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers within the safety team
  • Support the development and delivery of safety cases in line with programme schedules
  • Maintain high standards of safety, health, and environment (SHE) in all activities
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of Functional Safety, particularly of complex, software-centric systems
  • Familiarity with HAZID and HAZAN techniques
  • Prior submarine programme experience, ideally related to Vehicle Control (Navigation)
Skills:
  • Experience producing Formal Safety Assessments and safety documentation to a high standard
  • Proven track record of teamworking and mentoring colleagues
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to deliver quality outputs to strict deadlines
  • Skilled in technical report writing and safety justification
