Hourly Rate: £55.31 PAYE or £74.68 Umbrella

About the Role
BAE Systems is looking for a Principal Engineer – Product Safety to join our Submarines team in Barrow. This is a highly visible role where you’ll apply your engineering expertise to ensure the safety, compliance, and effectiveness of submarine systems and components. You’ll work independently or as part of a small team, providing technical leadership and guidance, and occasionally leading other engineers.

You’ll work independently or as part of a small team, providing technical leadership and guidance, and occasionally leading other engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake technical reviews and verify/sign engineering designs
- Provide guidance and direction to engineers, supporting their development
- Define qualification obligations for assurance hold points during build, test, and commissioning
- Ensure Safety Cases and supporting documentation are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate requirements where appropriate
- Promote and share technical expertise, approaches, and standards across the business
- Chartered Engineer (Eng) or equivalent capability
- Extensive experience in safety or environmental engineering, preferably in complex systems or submarine environments
- Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
