Role: Quality Engineer - APQP 
Client:

Location: Barrow-in-Furness  (with bi-weekly supplier site visits)
Hourly Rate: £47.11/hour Umbrella - Inside IR35
Contract Length: 12 months (likely extension)
Working Hours: 37 hours/week, full-time onsite
Security Clearance: BPSS + SC
  
Overview
BAE Systems Submarines seeks a skilled Quality Engineer -APQP to support the Submarine Nuclear New Assembly (SNNA) Programme, focusing on the rollout of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes within the supply chain.
This is a delivery-focused, supplier-facing quality assurance role – not inspection-based – aimed at building strong relationships with suppliers and cross-functional teams to support mechanical product development.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Roll out and embed APQPPPAPFAIR and associated tools within the supply chain
  • Train and coach suppliers and internal stakeholders on APQP methodologies
  • Collaborate closely with buyers and the supply chain team on supplier development
  • Conduct Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and manage First Article Inspections
  • Use data analysis tools such as Minitab and Excel to drive improvements
  • Lead supplier audits, resolve non-conformances, and support quality investigations
  • Present findings and reports to stakeholders across the business
  
Essential Skills & Experience (not all are essential) 
  • Strong expertise in APQP and supplier quality assurance
  • Experience working with mechanical products in a manufacturing or engineering setting
  • Familiarity with First ArticleFMVAs, MSA, and aerospace quality standards
  • Proficiency with MinitabExcel, and data interpretation tools
  • Excellent stakeholder management and presentation skills
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 / AS9145 / EN9100 frameworks
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and quality standards
