Contract Length: 12 Months
Hourly Rate: £40 PAYE or £53.90 Umbrella
BAE Systems are currently seeking multiple experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team based in Barrow-in-Furness. This is a 12-month contract opportunity supporting critical engineering programmes within a highly regulated and technically complex environment.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across the full product lifecycle. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure designs meet technical, safety, quality, and programme requirements.

The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across the full product lifecycle. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure designs meet technical, safety, quality, and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering expertise to support design, development, and integration activities
- Produce and review engineering documentation, including specifications, calculations, and reports
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality processes
- Support design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
- Liaise with stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, and project teams
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a mechanical engineering role, ideally at senior level
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering standards
- Experience working in a complex engineering or highly regulated environment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and produce high-quality engineering documentation
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience within defence, marine, nuclear, or heavy engineering industries
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
